Leading by Example

It's a big deal for a politician to take action against a mainstream media giant.

Defamation proceedings are expensive to mount and fraught with risk as the standards set to defame a politician seem much higher than in some other cases.

Somehow, elected representatives are expected to 'cop it sweet' as their characters are brought into question by rogue journalists and vindictive editors.

I took legal action against two media groups during my political career and won them both.

There were many more I could have pursued after years of partisan reporting and misrepresentation but didn't think of it as an option.

Eventually though, it came to a point where there were some things I was simply no longer willing to put up with.
