If you doubt that politicians view the people as economic serfs to be controlled, the State of California may convince you otherwise.
California has been controlled by the Left, even when they claim to be Republicans (Arnold Schwarzenegger, for example), for decades.
They were global poster boys for the Green dream that has steadily drained the state of businesses. They also embraced the 'sanctuary city' for illegal migrants while allowing low-value crime to go unpunished.
The result is that their streets are filled with homeless, drug-addicted criminals, and ordinary people are looking to flee.
The wealthy are leaving California as fast as they can. Some are not even waiting to find a buyer for their mansions as they look for safer and more attractive political climes.
And it's costing them a pretty penny to do so.
California has introduced an 'exit tax' for businesses and individuals wanting to leave the State. It's reported to be 0.4% of your net worth.
That does not include the 'mansion tax' payable when a house worth more than $5 million is sold. The tax starts at 4% and rises to 5.5% for homes over $10 million.
Now, the State, run by Democrat Governor Gavin Newsom, is planning to tax fleeing residents for up to 10 years after they leave.
That's the price you pay for getting out of a state where Democrat policies are making life miserable for all.
