Trump on the Right Track
Much of Trump's policy agenda is sensible and prudent, but many won't open their minds to see the possibilities they present.
There's something very familiar about the Trump policy agenda.
It took me back to when the Australian Conservatives (AC) were unsuccessfully contesting the battle of ideas.
We tried to detail a credible and sincere approach to making much needed reforms in the energy, education, political and business space.
While unfortunately they didn't gain much traction in Australia, it's pleasing to see similar policies presented on the largest political stage in the world.
Take for instance Trump's latest video about the substandard education system and the appalling lack of University accountability for student debt.
The AC had a very similar approach.
The Trump education rhetoric will also strike a chord with many parents. He asks the same question I did (and still do):
"How is it that we spend more money on education than ever before and our children get dumber? "
Now, education is just one part of the Trump policy agenda that strikes a chord with my own views.
However, many people remain wilfully ignorant of the positive Trump platform.
Instead of opening their minds to how nations can be made great, the never -Trumpers can't get past their personal judgement of the man.
These people have swallowed almost every morsel of the lies and salacious propaganda pushed by the corrupt Democrats about Trump for the past eight years. Many refuse to accept that almost all of these claims are misleading or without merit.
Some still bang on about the Russia collusion hoax or the court cases of FBI raids.
All are examples of the level of the corruption endemic in the American deep state. They simply accept the headlines to declare everything Trump is bad while ignoring facts about his opponents.
Sure, Trump isn't perfect - none of us are - but he's held to a different standard than almost every politician before him.
It doesn't really matter in the scheme of things.
In Australia, people can't vote for Trump but I sincerely hope his influence extends to prompting necessary changes in this country.
He's already questioned why America should protect nations that aren't prepared to protect innate freedoms - like freedom of speech.
Given Australia's UniParty agreement to license the internet and have an e-Safety Commissioner, this should be giving our current crop of authoritarian politicians plenty to think about.
Rather than resist the Trump agenda, we should look to enact parts of it in our own country. Primarily that should centre around an "Australia First" approach.
For too long successive governments here have surrendered to the internationalists at the UN or some bleeding heart communists at home. That's done us a world of harm
So while we should strive to be a good global citizen, we should never do so at the expense of our own people or placing other priorities ahead of our own.
Borrowing money to fund corrupt dictatorships while we have enormous problems at home is crazy, and yet we make decisions to do that almost every day.
The Trump team also put forward a proposal to require Federal public servants to have to turn up to work five days per week and work regular hours just like normal employees.
One official estimated that would cause 20% of them to quit without impacting government services at all. That's a win win!
I think we could cut half our public service without causing a problem in this country...except many would be unable to find another job which would lift the unemployment figures.
But those figures would be more accurate because most of the jobs growth in the country is in government or quasi-government positions.
Ultimately, that's a recipe for bankruptcy and disaster.
It remains to be seen if Trump can pull of the miracle needed to restore America's greatness but at least he's having a red-hot go.
I only wish our lot here would have the courage to do the same.
Thought for the Day
“Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life. Don’t be trapped by dogma — which is living with the results of other people’s thinking. Don’t let the noise of others’ opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most importantly, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition.”
