The regurgitation of lies masquerading as fact is a hallmark of unscrupulous manipulators of public opinion. It's recently been used to great effect.

You've probably heard the phrase, a lie can race halfway around the world before the truth can get its boots on.

It's a derivative of the words of author Jonathan Swift who wrote, Falsehood flies, and the Truth comes limping after it.

It's so true of what now passes as news or fact.

We've seen many examples in recent times, but there has seemed to be a concentration of contradictions attached to the unproven alleged rape of Brittany Higgins.

That this matter has effectively ruined a young man's life is beyond question.

His accuser, meanwhile, has made off with a reported multi-million dollar settlement paid by the government (using your money) and has become a heroine to many on the left.

Higgins and her boyfriend, Labor operative David Sharaz, regularly appear in the tabloid press, enjoying their new lifestyle, which includes overseas trips and luxury holidays.

It's a long way from a young woman we were told could not work again and suffered from devastating mental illness.
