The Fakeness of the Famous
Celebrities will do almost anything for money, even endorse the singular most inept candidate in US political history.
Here's a brutal reminder that you can't rely on anything presented to you via the media, politics or celebrity endorsements.
The lesson comes courtesy of the Kamala Harris campaign for President.
Firstly, the media ran as much cover for the hopeless Harris as they could while presenting Trump in a poor light most of the time.
Secondly, the Democrat campaign told outright lies about their own record and that of their opponent, presenting them as facts. These were often relayed by surrogates in the media space.
Now, there's nothing too unusual about these two observations, even if the degree to which they occurred is almost unprecedented.
But here's where it gets really interesting.
The Harris campaign spent millions paying 'celebrities' to endorse her or provide support for her campaign rallies. The sheer scale of the buyoffs are astounding.
They include:
- $4 million on social media 'influencers'.
- $1 million to Oprah Winfrey's company for a softball interview.
- 500K to Al Sharpton's non-profit
- $5M to Megan Thee Stallion
- $3M to Lizzo
- $1.8M for Eminem
- $10M to Beyoncé without a performance
In effect, it was all cash for favourable comments, which mocked the sincerity or legitimacy of those hired to put their credibility on the line.
And even when exposed as part of the cash-for-endorsement racket, they seem happy to deceive or mislead
