Political Cycle of Decay
Parliamentary behaviour seems to be getting steadily worse and is now discouraging the best people from entering the political field.
There hasn't been a day since I left the parliament that I have missed it.
Don't get me wrong, it was a cherished experience which I enjoyed every day for nearly 14 years but then something changed.
When you've used up your political energy, what was previously invigorating becomes a chore. The challenge of making change becomes just a job and that's the wrong attitude for politicians to have.
It is the approach many take of course. They don't rock the boat or put their head above the parapet lest they risk their nice pay-packet and perks. It's even more so when there is no alternative career to fall back on.
But there's another reason why I don't miss the political life.
