Having Liberal frontbenchers openly opposed to Party policy is a test of principle. Any failure to uphold it will come at a heavy price.

When you abandon principle, the price of doing so is usually high.

It's often much more than the anticipated and this is particularly true in the political realm.

Politicians bank on the voters having a short memory and forgiving the betrayal of founding principles. They expect their supporters to stay loyal  and maintain the faith.

Sometimes that expectation is well placed, other times it isn't.

The Liberal Party is going through one of those challenges right now.
