The Chinese spy balloon has made a mockery of American air defence.
Not because the Americans were incapable of detecting it or shooting it down, but because they spent days dithering over what action to take.
No-one truly believes this was a wayward weather balloon blown off course by the predictable Westerly winds.
It's much more likely to be an unmanned surveillance blimp or a test of the US government's response protocols by the Chinese.
